ONE THING I’M DOING RIGHT NOW👇🏽 _ Usually I save my swings until the end of my training sesh, but lately, w/ the colder Dec Vegas temps, I’ve been working in swings w/ the first half of my sesh. It gets my heart rate up & it gets me warm, FAST. Today I kicked off my sesh w/ an excerpt from my Summer Shred program & did 3 rounds of 2 hand swings & pull-ups as follows: 15 2H SW. 6 BW Pull-ups. 15 2H SW. 5 BW Pull-ups. 15 2H SW. 4 Weighed Pull-ups. 15 2H SW. Besides the colder, winter temps, since I was officially diagnosed w/ Stage 2 Adrenal Dysfunction (i.e. “Adrenal Fatigue”) on Dec 5 of this yr, I’ve also needed to make some changes to raise my cortisol levels. My cortisol is basically a flat line day & night & even tho it remains low overall, around 10p it goes up & stays up thru the night & then hits a normal level between 8-9a. Based upon this, I noticed that I feel the best throughout the day when I start my exercise between 8:30-9a. Due to my work schedule, I’m not always able to exercise at this time, but, for my health, I’m making small changes to make sure that it will soon be a regular, permanent thing. In the meantime, I exercise at this time when I can & at least before noon. O/ changes that I have made include: _ 👉🏽Going to bed earlier & waking up earlier. Based upon @ericgahanatc previous night schedule when he worked at @cirquedusoleil, our sleep & wake cycle got all screwed up b/c he basically worked a night shift & it affected the both of us. Since he’s left Cirque, we’ve worked hard to get back to a schedule of a 10:30p bedtime & a 7a wake up time. _ 👉🏽Specific AM & PM supplements from a large dose of Vit C, Vit E, to Ashwaganda, Rhodiola & many more. _ 👉🏽Wearing night time blue light blocking glasses. _ 👉🏽Wearing day time blue light blocking glasses. _ 👉🏽Ending any & all work at 7p, which I’m working to end earlier. _ 👉🏽Being adamant about putting my phone away for the night by 8p. Cortisol affects many o/ hormones from thyroid to sex hormones. If your cortisol is out of whack, then it’s likely that o/ hormones are out of whack. I LIKE BIG BELLS 😈AND I CANNOT LIE. Today’s big bell shenanigans 💪🏽brought to you by 28kg (62lbs) and 40kg (88lbs). I love how I am swinging 28kg and 40kg regularly in my training sessions. This is a sign that I’m not just having a strong day, but that I am actually building strength that sticks. There is nothing more empowering than the feeling of being STRONG! On Fridays I do 20 rounds of @ericgahanatc signature 20/20 swing conditioning as a finisher and combine one hand swings and two hand swings. For almost one month now I’ve been incorporating 28kg for one hand swings and 40kg for two hand swings for some of the sets. Today I used these weights for all sets. I set my timer for 20 rounds of a 20 second work/ 20 second rest split and did as follows: Round 1️⃣: 5 R 5 L 28kg one hand swings. Round 2️⃣: 10 40kg two hand swings. Round 3️⃣: 5 R 5 L one hand swings. Round 4️⃣: 10 40kg two hand swings, etc., etc. Give it a try and let me know how it goes👇🏽. What’s one thing that you’ve noticed is stronger in your training? MY SWINGS ARE SANTA🎅🏼APPROVED👌🏽. _ Last September 2018 I started to work towards a long-term goal of @strongfirst Sinister. For women sinister is 10, 32kg (70lbs) 1 hand swings to chest level every 30sec for 5min, switching hands each time, total 100 swings, 50ea hand. 1min rest. Followed by 10min of alternating single get-ups w/ 24kg (53lbs) ea min on the min for a total of 10 get-ups, 5ea side. 24kg get-ups are easy work for me, but swinging 32kg w/ 1 hand for 100 reps, which is 62% of my bodyweight, scares me a little. A little less now since I’ve been slowly working towards it over the past year & 28kg (62lbs) 1 hand swings are getting to feel like “light weight”, but, it’s still a tad daunting. However, when I learned about the Iron Maiden Challenge over 8yrs ago, I felt the same way. At that time 24kg seemed like a massive weight for someone my size to pull-up, strict military press, & pistol squat. But I trained for it & completed it, so why not Sinister? After I finished my 12-wk Summer Shred v.1.0 program last summer 2018, heavy weights were feeling lighter than ever to swing, so I figured it was a great time to keep that momentum going & train for Sinister. Last fall I followed a Sinister specific program for about 8wks but then I transitioned to other training programs like my Summer Shred v.2.0 & my husband @ericgahanatc Circuit Shred, all the while keeping a side goal of building more strength for a heavy 1 hand swing. Strength from those programs carried over to my goal of Sinister & 32kg 1 hand swings. I have not needed to keep up w/ a Sinister specific program, but rather focus on building both upper & lower body unilateral symmetry & strength, which is a focus of Eric’s Circuit Shred program, & consistently practicing heavy 1 hand swings over the training week. In fact, I have not been doing get-ups at all but rather consistently training heavy floor presses & light, medium & heavy military presses & all variations of knee dominant single leg exercises.
