NOW, onto 6 Reasons Why I Love Kettlebells…
20 years ago I fell in love with kettlebells and they transformed not only my body, but my mind.
Since then, I have trained with them pretty much every day and for me, a day without swings is a day without sunshine.
Here are 6 reasons why I love kettlebells…
1️⃣ COMBINES STRENGTH & CARDIO
Kettlebell training involves both grinds (strength movements) and ballistics (cardiovascular training). With one single kettlebell, and one simple 30-minute workout, you can train both strength and cardio together.
2️⃣ COMPACT & PORTABLE
Kettlebells are compact and portable and make a great home gym and are easy to travel with on road trip vacations.
3️⃣ FUNCTIONAL
The asymmetrical shape of the kettlebell translates to the asymmetrical shape of loads and packages that we lift in real life. So when you train with kettlebells, you are training for LIFE!
4️⃣ MOST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK
Kettlebell training is extremely time efficient because the nature of the kettlebell allows you to get maximal results from even a quick 30-min training session – much more efficient than a 30-min “arms” session with dumbbells!
e.g. Most kettlebell movements are compound movements, (i.e. total body movements), that burn more calories in a shorter period of time.
Plus many kettlebell movements require you to add force to the bell, (e.g. the kettlebell swing), which increases the weight you are using (e.g. 20lb kettlebell can weigh up to 80lbs with correct force). This allows you to train a lower system load for maximal results that can carry over to other movements like a deadlift.
5️⃣ SYMMETRY
No one is ever perfectly symmetrical, but you can definitely work to achieve this by regularly training unilateral movements (vs. bilateral, e.g. barbell).
Kettlebells promote symmetry because even when you are working with double kettlebells, each side of your body is working separately to manage the weight and must build up its own strength and skill to work with a particular kettlebell weight.
6️⃣ BUILDS STRONG GLUTES AND ARE GOOD FOR YOUR BACK
Many kettlebell movements are based upon the hip hinge which strengthens your glutes (i.e. KETTLEBELL BOOTY!) and takes the stress of load away from your back.
I hope you will join me for the Holiday Swing Challenge to celebrate the magic of kettlebells and swing & sweat through the holidays together!
