This Fitness “Trend” Is Here To Stay…
In my 48 years on this planet I have seen a lot of fitness and nutrition trends come and go from Urban Rebounding to the Atkins diet.
However, one “trend” that has been around for decades and has stood the test of time because it actually works, is what bodybuilders and figure competitors have been doing for years.
It’s not sexy.
It’s not flashy.
It’s simple, but not easy because it takes dedication, discipline, and consistency.
It doesn’t deliver results overnight, but it delivers a massive transformation if you give it time, trust the process, stick to it, and make it your lifestyle.
This “trend”, this method, is Unsexy Training.
Here’s the formula:
- Walk 10k+ steps per day
- Strength train and follow a program with progressive overload 4-5x per week (no random workouts of the day, and stop killing it with the cardio)
- Progressive Overload means you are going to do the same workout routine for 6-12 weeks BUT change it up and progress it by increasing volume, intensity, and/or weight over the weeks.
- For cardio, do Zone 2 cardio (65% – 75% of your max heart rate) 5-7x per week – you can combine this with getting your steps in!
- Eat real, whole foods and follow a macro based nutrition plan that includes eating at least 1g of high quality, complete, lean protein per 1 lb of bodyweight
- Eliminate/minimize alcohol, refined sugar, and caffeine
- Go to bed by 10/10:30 pm daily, 7 days/week
To my midlife women going through the menopause years, to transform my body from squishy and inflamed at age 45 to jacked, lean, and feeling great now at age 48, I did all of the above plus the following:
