How I Stay Lean & Strong at (Almost) 50: Proven Habits
People ask me all the time how I stay lean, strong, and energized in midlife.
Here’s the truth:
It’s not genetics.
It’s not willpower.
And it’s definitely not perfection.
It’s habits.
Here are a few things I do—and what I have my clients do—to stay lean and strong year-round at (almost) 50:
1️⃣ I don’t run. I ruck.
I walk 2.5–3 miles daily with a weighted backpack for Zone 2 cardio.
This supports recovery from lifting, improves metabolic health, and keeps stress hormones in check.
2️⃣ I eat boring on purpose.
I eat the same meals on repeat.
No decision fatigue.
No constant tracking chaos.
Just consistency.
3️⃣ I always have food with me.
I’d rather eat a prepared meal in my car than skip meals or rely on takeout.
Consistency beats convenience.
4️⃣ My lifts and rucks are non-negotiable.
Even if they’re shorter some days, I still show up.
Progress comes from consistency—not perfection.
5️⃣ I move all day—not just in workouts.
Steps, walks, stairs, parking far away—these “movement snacks” add up.
This is how you increase daily energy output without burning out.
6️⃣ I protect my sleep like it’s my job.
Especially with Hashimoto’s, sleep is non-negotiable for recovery, hormones, and fat loss.
Being lean, fit, and strong in midlife does not happen by accident.
It’s the result of:
- Structure
- Support
- Day-to-day consistency
