Making the sale is not about YOU, it’s about THEM…
If you’re a coach and a true “Coach” Entrepreneurial Archetype, then you’re probably GREAT at building and maintaining relationships.
You’ve probably had the same clients for YEARS and have a great referral network.
BUT, now that you’ve transitioned your business online, you’re STRUGGLING with not just generating leads, but also, CLOSING SALES ONLINE.
PLUS, since you’re out of your element online, you feel like you’ve forgotten anything and everything you knew about sales and closing the sale.
The online space takes away the in-person human-to-human aspect of sales, which, as a coach, is what gives you, your SALES SUPERPOWER.
But now that you’re online, you feel POWERLESS because you have to learn a whole new skill of lead generation PLUS ONLINE SALES and don’t know where to start.
You need to bring the in-person, human element to the virtual world…
“BUT HOW??” You ask…
Here are my top 3 online sales tips that will bring back your SALES SUPERPOWERS:
Build the relationship online with your leads, just like you would in-person.
Do this by connecting with your leads on topics other than sales PLUS convos that delve deeper into what they need help with.
If you’re thinking, “How do I know who are leads??” Your leads are the people who are:
- Commenting on your posts
- Liking your posts
- Sending you DMs
- Watching your stories, sometimes religiously
- Engaging with your stories by responding or participating in polls/surveys if you are doing that in your stories
ALWAYS respond to their comments, ask them questions in response to their comments whenever possible.

Go to THEIR profiles and comment on their posts and direct message them on IG – It really DOES all go down in the DMs.
2) DURING THE SALE CONVO
Focus on the TRANSFORMATION and the desires of your ideal client more than the “stuff” you will give them.
During a sale conversation, often we get caught up in telling our ideal client all the things we are going to give them for the money they pay.
We talk and talk and talk, instead of LISTENING to our ideal client’s fears, obstacles, goals, and desires.
This is NOT what making the sale is about.
Making the sale is NOT about YOU, it’s about THEM.
It’s about diving deep into the client’s fears and obstacles – what’s holding them back from committing or being able to make the change that they want to make…
LISTENING TO THEM… AND,
HOW you will HELP THEM with this transformation, rather than telling them what you are going to give them for their money.
3) FOLLOW-UP AFTER THE SALES CONVO
Your ultimate goal is to close the sale on the call and to take payment over the phone or ZOOM call and get them to sign up, right then and there.
BUT, if you don’t close the sale on the call, ALWAYS SET A FOLLOW-UP PLAN.
As you end the sales call, make a plan with the client about how you will follow-up.
BE THE LEADER in the sales conversation.
- Provide them with a timeline for a response:
- Set a method for the follow-up:
- Schedule another call to follow-up and close the sale
- communicate via email, or
- IG direct message.
- Regardless of what follow-up plan you make, email or direct message the client right after the sales call.
- In this email or direct message, include:
- a brief summary of the sales call – i.e. how you will help them to reach their goal
- a summary of the program, and
- any “getting started” information that is helpful to them.
- In this email or direct message, include:
IF you don’t have another call scheduled with them to follow-up and close the sale, then follow-up with a VOICE MESSAGE or VIDEO.
Hearing your voice and/or watching and listening to you on video adds a personal touch to the follow-up.
Hearing your voice and/or seeing your body language helps them to feel more of a personal connection to you as a human and as their coach, AND,
Brings the in-person, human element to the online space.
The better and more comfortable you get at online sales, the MORE your business will THRIVE.
