Once upon a time, 11 years ago on February 5, 2010, when it was “early on”, I went on my very first date with my husband Eric. 

It was a cold, snowy February night in Boston and I almost didn’t make it. Not because of the weather or any other reason, but because I almost blew him off.

YUP. I was a pain in the ass.

I met Eric through a trainer at the gym who was his roommate and a childhood friend, Justin.

When I moved back to Boston in 2009, and started working at the Boston Sports Clubs in West Newton, Justin went home and shared with Eric,

“There’s this girl who started working at the gym and she loves kettlebells and you love kettlebells! You would be perfect for each other!”

Not his EXACT words, but close enough.

Justin also shared with me that the kettlebell connection would be the thing to seal the deal, and then asked me if it would be OK if he gave Eric my email address.

Reluctantly I said, 

“Sure…”

…not because I didn’t think that I would like Eric, but because at age 33 I had dated my fair share of a-holes and had resolved that if I was going to be single for the rest of my life, that I would be 100% OK with that.

When Eric first emailed me with the subject “Kettlebells” it took me 2 weeks to email him back!

This went on for 6 weeks. Eric would email (THE BEST emails btw), call and text me, and I would either ignore him or take forever to respond.

I was a pain in the ass, yet Eric was patient and persistent and finally, we scheduled our first date. 

On that Friday, I was EXHAUSTED from working a bazillion hours, training clients and teaching classes…

PLUS, it was a cold, snowy night in Boston…

I just wanted to curl up on my couch and watch marathon episodes of the Rachel Zoe Project.

I almost blew him off, but gave myself a pep talk and was 30 minutes late (no lie) to our first date Eastern Standard in Boston.

As the host showed me to our table, Eric stood up and smiled the biggest Cheshire cat grin with his bright blue eyes.

At that moment, I was so happy that I had made the decision to NOT blow him off and went on to have the best first date I have ever had in my life… 

We talked about more than just kettlebells and lived happily ever after…

What we discovered is that we had SO MUCH MORE in common than kettlebells…
