We didn’t invent the concept of a “zone of genius.”

Gay Hendricks coined the phrase in his 2009 book The Big Leap.

He lays out 4 zones of function:
1. Zone of Incompetence

2. Zone of Competence

3. Zone of Excellence

4. Zone of Genius
(You can read more about it by Googling this book, but it’s cool to note that your Zone of Excellence is not the same as your Zone of Genius. Just because you’re good at something, doesn’t mean it puts you in flow.)

We have structured our business so that we are spending more time in our zone of genius: COACHING.

We have designed a business that allows us to have the life we want. We work when we want to work, and we only do the things we want to do.

We’ve got people to take care of the rest.

Does that sound scary to you? Maybe even a little cringy?

If I don’t want to do something, why would someone else want to?

Because their zone of genius is different from yours.

For example, when this email is going out, we are in Boston celebrating my niece’s high school graduation. Our business is humming.

Our marketing team created the email schedule and wrote this email.

Writing copy is their zone of genius.

We read it over and gave it the green light.

Our VA scheduled the email.

Attention to details is her zone of genius.

We can write our own copy. We can schedule our own emails. Sure. Of course we can.

If it’s not in our zone of genius, it’s not in our schedule.
