It wasn’t part of the plan, but it changed everything

A little over a year ago I relaunched my online coaching business after an almost two year hiatus.
If you’re new here – I actually started my online training business in 2012 by writing a blog (when people used to actually read blogs!), as a part-time additional income stream to my brick and mortar gym.
Then in 2016, I closed my gym and my husband, Eric, and I moved from Boston to Las Vegas so that he could accept a Head Therapist position with Cirque du Soleil.
I kept running my online fitness business as a part-time gig, with the intention of growing it to a full-time gig. In the meantime, I also accepted a part-time position as the Strength & Conditioning Coach for Cirque du Soleil Kà and trained small groups out of my garage gym.
In 2019 I went all in on my online business, grew it to six figures, left Cirque du Soleil, and let go of my in-person garage group training.
In 2020 I pivoted to business coaching and helped fitness & healthcare professionals start and grow their online businesses.
By the end of 2021, post pandemic, I found myself burned out. For the first time since I had left my corporate consulting job in 2008 to pursue a career as a fitness professional and entrepreneur, I had lost all of my desire and drive to do the thing that I had been so passionate about for over 14 years.
I spent 14 years building 4 businesses and an incredible career as a fitness and business coach, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it anymore.
I never, ever thought I would go back to a corporate job, but then in April 2022 I put my online business on pause (at the time I thought it was permanent) and went back to the corporate world for 18 months.
Fortuitously, in October 2023 I ended my “corporate sabbatical” to relocate from Vegas to New Orleans for my husband’s job and this opened up the opportunity for me to start again. (As of December 2024, thankfully, we’ve moved back to Vegas.)
In April last year I announced my “comeback” (haha) and last May I made it official with the launch of two brand new lifting programs – Metabolic Muscle & Iron Body Abs.
Last year at this exact time, we were actually visiting Vegas (from Nola) so that Eric could attend a conference and I could do a photoshoot to update my photos for my business.
Now I have a full 1:1 client load – both fitness and business coaching, and have successfully launched 4 sessions of my group program, Midlife Muscles & Macros, and currently have 12 incredible women enrolled and kicking ass!
Being an entrepreneur and working for yourself is HARD AF. Not everyone is cut out to do it.
If you are an entrepreneur, you are built differently. But that doesn’t mean that you don’t have moments when you say “Screw it all!” and weigh out the pros and cons of getting a 9-5.
While in the moment of making the decision to go back to the office, I felt like I had failed.
BUT, what I learned shortly thereafter, was that this break was necessary.
This pivot wasn’t part of the plan, but actually, it WAS part of the plan because it helped me to see more clearly that:
– I did indeed want to be my own boss and be a digital entrepreneur.
– I am not built to work in an office for someone else.
– I LOVE fitness and nutrition, being a coach, and helping others transform not just their bodies+minds, but their LIVES.
My “corporate sabbatical” also helped me to be a better leader and a more wise and sound business owner.
I used to be in a rush to hit revenue goals and push doing more and more in my business because that defined my success.
But now, I’m not in a rush and I see that more is not “success”. More is just, more, and maybe too much.
I want to take my time, stay clear of burnout, and make this iteration of my business the best and most successful+sustainable one yet.
Get ready, I have some incredible new things coming this year, including a brand new fitness app with one of the best platforms out there! Current ETA for my new app launch is July this year. I’ll keep you updated on all the things!
