HOW WILL YOU SHOW UP IN 2020?

In 2016, when Eric and I closed our training gym, Iron Body Studios, in order to move to Las Vegas so that he could accept a position as Head Therapist with Cirque du Soleil people kept asking me, “What will you do?”

Up until that point, aside from my blog and online coaching and workshop business, a large part of my identity had been Iron Body Studios. This change happened much faster than we anticipated so I had not thought much about what I would do after the doors were closed.

When I arrived in Vegas I wanted to build my online training and workshop business, but I just couldn’t. Less than halfway through 2016 I was BURNT OUT and this burn out carried over into 2017.

So, even though I had been in the online space for four years at that point, starting in 2012 with my blog and Facebook, because Instagram wasn’t really a THING in 2012, it wasn’t that easy.

I was fried from managing our training gym and all the stresses and challenges that came with it; many, that up until this day we have only shared with family and close friends. PLUS traveling to teach my women’s strength workshop I Am Not Afraid To Lift® and to speak at other fitness events while also balancing online coaching clients as well.

I needed a break. I needed to sleep and not wake up to an alarm, to read, lay out by the pool and do things that I hadn’t done in years, like go to an indoor cycling class.

Luckily, I had my husband there to support me financially and emotionally.

Yes, I still had some online business and I had accepted a part-time strength and conditioning position at Cirque, so I was working a little, but I was really just going thru the motions.

In 2017 I felt burnt out, washed up and irrelevant and I was scared this feeling wasn’t going to change. Then after we returned from a vacation in Hawaii, in August 2017, I started to feel motivated and inspired again.

With that, I scheduled a StrongFirst kettlebell course and after I taught that course, I felt a spark again. Then that spark led to me schedule another kettlebell workshop and after I taught that course, the spark turned into a small flame. Then I re-vamped the curriculum for I Am Not Afraid To Lift® and scheduled my first Lift workshop in over a year, for 2018. From there I started to put out regular content and from there, that small flame turned into a FIRE.

Little by little I started to get pieces of myself back. It wasn’t easy and there were many days in 2017 that I felt lost and even considered leaving the fitness industry all together to go back to work in an office but I didn’t. I spoke to Eric about this many times that year!

However, instead, each day I did a little something to recover from burn out and to build myself back up (like read self-help books by the pool, HA!). Then, eventually, I felt whole again and I felt the passion that reminds me why I do what I do as a coach.

This passion and fire continued through 2018 when I decided to set significant goals for my business in 2019.

In 2019 I invested $3k in building my business and my goals were:

  1. To transition my business to 100% online by December 31, 2019. I achieved this goal 8 months early by April 30, 2019.
  2. To make 6 figures by December 31, 2019. I achieved this goal 30 days early on December 1, 2019.

This passion continues today and this fire is still burning. As a result of achieving my goals in 2019 I made new goals for 2020.

In 2020 I am set up to invest more than $30k to build my business. I dropped a big chunk of change and invested in a high level 1:1 business coach in order to PLAY BIG because I have colossal goals in 2020.

In 2020 my goals are:

  1. To take massive steps to go from being solopreneur to CEO.
  2. To make multiple six figures by December 31, 2020.

I’m scared shitless, but also oh, so excited. These goals and the steps that I have to take to achieve them might mean that I have to completely change my business. As scared as I am, part of me is giddy with excitement and absolutely ready for what’s to come. I want EmpowerU Online Coaching to be an EMPIRE.

When people see success, they don’t see all the reps, failure and burn out that went in to making that success. Success doesn’t happen overnight. It takes at least 1,000 reps, and usually many more, along with falling down and failing just as many times. All of which make you stronger and more resilient as long as you stand back up, punch fear in the face, and make your weakness your strength.

I started working in the fitness industry because I wanted to help people and I still do, however, from the day that I left my close-to-6-figure IT consulting job almost 12 years ago to work in the fitness industry, I always had big business goals.

Each time I took a step towards my business goals, it was always scary and risky, and there were always haters along with those who supported me, but it was the only way to level up to keep working towards my goals.

If you have big goals and you’re going into 2020 without a plan that involves taking some risk and massive change that scares the shit out of you, then you’re doing it wrong.

Do you know what your 2020 will look like?

Do you have a vision and a plan to LEVEL UP and make it your biggest and best year yet or will you stay in your comfort zone and have a repeat of 2019?
