NOW, onto the subject of this email, Maca vs. Matcha

Do you know the difference and the amazing health benefits that each have?

Maca is a cruciferous root vegetable from Peru, specifically the Andes. The Incans used to consume it before long journeys and battles for energy. It’s a great supplement for fiber, energy, and to increase libido and estrogen.

Typically it comes in a powder form and people add it to their smoothies. I add it to my post workout smoothie on a daily basis!

Matcha is green tea that is finely ground into a powder. You mix the powder with water so when you drink matcha, you are drinking the entire tea leaf.

Matcha is known to have a calming effect on the mind and body which is why traditionally, buddhist monks sipped matcha tea as it helped them with their daily meditation.

Benefits of Matcha also include,

  • High in antioxidants, amino acids, chlorophyll (reason for bright green color).
  • L-Theanine is the most prevalent amino acid. It increases serotonin, dopamine, and GABA (all involved in a healthy night’s sleep!), and is known to have a calming effect on the mind and body.
  • Caffeine content may promote focused energy without the jitters. 1 cup of matcha has about 1/5 the amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee.
  • A source of polyphenols – antioxidants that prevent oxidative stress.
  • Inhibits Phase I (garbage generation) of liver detoxification and Stimulates Phase II (garbage collection) of liver detoxification. (Liver detoxification is something that you will learn about in my 45-Day Hormone Reset!)
  • Stimulates transcription factor Nrf2 which regulates oxidative damage.
  • Green tea contains 6 types of antioxidants called catechins and all 6 clear your body of free radicals and weaken the cold virus.
  • Studies show that green tea helps to reverse liver disease, infections, digestive issues, heart disease, neurodegenerative diseases, hormonally related cancers, all-cause mortality, and genital warts.

Eric and drink Matcha tea almost daily. Usually in the afternoon to help promote concentration and productivity for work tasks.
