The other day one of my followers on Instagram asked me about the position of my feet for the kettlebell swing.

The question: Why are my feet slightly externally rotated?

My answer: A very small percentage of people are comfortable swinging and/or built to swing a kettlebell with their feet positioned strictly hip distance with toes pointing straight ahead. This is a very narrow, fixed stance. Great for conventional stance barbell deadlifts, but not so much for kettlebell swings, and even squats.

Most people find their optimal swing stance, one that they can generate the most power from, with a leg width that is slightly wider than their hips and a foot position with a slight ~30 degree external rotation.

Of course your swing stance will be wider, almost like a sumo stance, if you are swinging double kettlebells or a very heavy kettlebell because you need to make room for the bell(s).

I will also cover hardstyle, diaphragmatic power breathing as it relates to optimal results with kettlebell training, as well as programming and two key principles of programming:

– Continuity of the training process
– Waving the loads
